Day 6 Mission Beach to Cardwell

Up at 5.45 all organised and ready to go just before 8. First couple of km were difficult but soon got back into the swing of it. Weather sunny intervals with a high of 27c. Mostly no wind until a bit later in the day, which was good as it cooled me down a bit. Lots of sunscreen applied. So had to cycle 20km to get back to the highway. Roads pretty good. The good thing about leaving the highway is there aren't as many cars and they tend to go slower. My plan today was to head to the free camping at Bilyana approx 40km and see how I felt. Saw my first wild kangaroo on this ride, too fast for me to get a picture. Shame. I usually stop after an hour of cycling to have something to eat and drink a bit. Yesterday I got some reduced white rolls in wollies so have to eat them up before they are no good. Got a bit of cheese to slap in um. I have 4 water bottles, 2 have water in them, 1 sport electrolyte replacement and the last one has lime flavouring with chia seeds. The chia seeds make it like a gel and a great source of protein. They are easy to carry and don't degrade, which is a bonus. Anyway after 2 hours of riding got to the free campsite rest area.Decided would   stop for an hour then set of again. Had been there about 10 minutes and a camper van pulled up gentleman walked over and asked if I'd like a cup of tea. So this is where I had a good chat with Phil and Zofia from Victoria. On their way up to Cairns. Lovely to chat with them and hope to bump into them when they make their way back down. And they make a good cup of Yorkshire Tea! The fruit cake was appreciated too. So after a bit of a rest decided to head to Cardwell. Got there at around 3 to the campsite, set up the tent and headed for the Jetty. Jim said he had seen Dugongs of the jetty and apparently there's turtles there too. But unluckily the sea was rough and visibility 0 so not possible today. 67km completed, going to sleep well tonight.
